Looking for a movie title.?

My Mom described a movie where a Mother told her little girl to put her birthday invitations into a tree trunk. I did a search online and someone had a similar question and received an answer that it might be "Sentimental Journey" that came out in the 40's..but in all of the synopsis' I read I don't see anywhere it says anything about the invitations. : ) Does anyone know? Thanks!!
