Do you pay for Internet on the Samsung SCH-i760?

I just recently got the Samsung sch-i760, and I was wondering if you have to pay the regular data fees to use the internet on this phone, even when you're connected to a Wi-Fi network. I have it connected to my home network, and browsed the internet a few times. Please help!
