At what point, if ever, will man proceed to colonize space?

"Outer Space" has always been a big question mark, and as a previous answerer said, 'they' have been seeking another inhabitable place out there for decades. I do think 'we' will populate as much of Earth as possible, and don't expect to see space colonization within my lifetime. If it happens, I'll stay here.
